The four-year-old program is involved the State Wide Voluntary Preschool Program which offers 10 free hours a week to preschool students who turn four before September 15th of each year.   The four-year-old program uses several programs such as Creative Curriculum, Teaching Strategies GOLD, Jolly Phonics, Heggerty’s Phonemic Awareness, Read It Again and Handwriting without Tears.  Each program is used widely across the nation and is designed to teach preschoolers various skills they need for Kindergarten.  The four-year-old program is contracted through the North Fayette Valley School District so we follow the districts schedule.  Teachers for the four-year-old preschool program must have at least a Bachelors in Early Childhood. Amanda Kalb currently teaches this program, she has her BA from UIU in Early Childhood Education with a Reading Endorsement, Special Education Endorsement and a Psychology Minor.  In addition, she has an Early Childhood Diploma and Early Childhood AA from NICC, with 13 years of career experience in the early childhood field through child care, preschool and Head Start. Not to mention all the years taking care of her eighteen nieces and nephews and babysitting as an adolescent/teen. Maynard is where Mrs. Kalb resides with her husband and two children.
